Doing the Best I Can

I'm starting this blog with this hopes that there are others out there like me--working to do all the things we KNOW we SHOULD be doing to raise a greener family. I'm continually reading ways to protect my kids for environmental toxins, feed them the healthiest food and raise them with an awareness of nature. I'm doing the best I can, but I get discouraged. I'm hoping that keeping up with this blog will help to keep me motivated.

My current "Hippie Mom Project" (as my family calls it) is attempting to grow a family garden. Last year we did an organic CSA, which was a GREAT experience not only for me, but also for my kids. I would have loved to do it again, but it was just too expensive for us. So I'm trying to do it myself. Saying I do not have a green thumb is an understatement, but I've managed to keep my two house plants alive for over a year so we'll see how this goes!

  2. Hi, my family and I just moved to Canton a couple of months ago from Oklahoma. I googled North Canton chicken regulations and found your website! I am so excited there is someone else out there in the same town trying to do the same type of thing. I am a horrible gardener, and it's not for lack of trying, and I want to start a garden too, but the ohio weather has me thrown. I can't wait to read your posts on what you are doing. Do you know of any gardening classes or somewhere I should be going to get help? I also want to do a chicken coop! Thanks!

  3. Hi Amanda! Anthony Petitti Garden center has classes on organic gardening--I've never taken one, but I know they offer them. I usually go to Dumont's on 30th street and ask for help--they're pretty knowledgeable. I've written a few blog posts about various other gardening places, but I can't think of anything right now. SproutRobot.com is a good resource too. As for the chicken coop--I haven't actually taken the next step past thinking about coops, but I know TSC has coops to buy and chicks as well. Hope that helps!
