So on a polar opposite topic--I'm having a party! I "applied" to have a Healthy Baby Home Party sponsored by Seventh Generation and Healthy Child Healthy World. I'm really excited to do this party, both because it will give me an excuse to invite over some mom's I don't always get a chance to really talk with and because they'll bring their kids and we'll have a massive playdate!
I just got my party kit in the mail yesterday. It contains a DVD, which I *think* has the video clip that I posted on here awhile ago when I first blogged about Healthy Child Healthy World.
There is also a bingo game that has all the "meat" (or should I say plant-based protein?) of the party's info. Each bingo card has a picture on one side, the bingo part, and then a fact about how to keep your child safe from toxins. The best part, of course, is all the free samples I got to share with the party-goers! There are a few full-size bottles of products as well, to use a prizes for the bingo game. The game is based around the 5 Easy Steps which are simple things anyone can to to help protect our kids from environmental dangers.
1.Avoid Pesticides
2. Use Non-Toxic Products
3 Clean Up Indoor Air
4 Eat Healthy
5 Be Wise With Plastics
They're all really and truly simple things you can do. The one thing I'm going to start doing today, is taking off our shoes indoors. "Roughly 70% of household dust, pests, pollutants and dirt (which often contains lead and chemicals) are tracked indoors on the bottom of shoes." See, simple! Who doesn't want to remove 70% of house hold crud in one easy "step". Oh, bad pun, I know.
I think I'm going to keep these bingo cards beside my computer and list a fact or two every day. The most important thing is to spread the word--even if it doesn't come with a free sample!
"Instead of synthetic chemical room fresheners, make your house smell fresh and clean by placing orange or lemon slices, cloves, or any other herb in boiling water on the stove. Baking soda also helps to mask pesky odors!"
