I threw a party and nobody came

Last weekend I threw a Healthy Baby Home party.  I applied to have the party through Healthy Child Healthy World.  I got free samples of baby lotion, baby wash, baby laundry detergent,  toddler fruit snacks, Luna bars and a full size of bath soap, bubble bath, baby wash and moist facial towelettes.  Plus lots of coupons.  I was supposed to show a DVD, play bingo and give out some of the full sized products as prizes.  I blogged about this already, I know.  It was sponsored by Seventh Generation (mostly Seventh Generation products) and they wanted me to have it by Thanksgiving.  So I planned two weeks out and sent out evites for last Sunday.  I got a few "maybes" a few nos and a lot of no replies.  It was a bust.
Evan pointed out that not everyone has my interests, which I realize, but I still thought people might come just to bring their kids for a playdate.  I had a lot of nos that gave reasons they couldn't come--I realize that the weekend before Thanksgiving is kind of the last chance before the HOLIDAY season starts and people's lives are already getting hectic.  With the house being painted all week last week, it was kind of nice to not have to worry about getting everything ready for guests on Sunday, but now I have guilt. I accepted all of these products with the understanding that I was going to have this party.  I intended to, but since it didn't work out...now what?  I put some of the samples in bags and I'm going to pass them out to friends I see often that I think might use them, I'm putting the bingo card facts on here, but I still feel like I failed at my job.  So I'm also going to review the products that were in the party pack.  Which is easy, because I loved all of them!  The Luna bars didn't last two days.  The kids saw something that looked like a candy bar and they were gone.  I was allowed to taste both flavors and I liked both.  I was also impressed with the protein content in them.  I'm always looking at protein content, being a vegetarian, and these looked like a good way to grab a serving of protein when you're on the go. The fruit snacks were Plum Organics Teensy Fruits and they too were gone in a flash.  They weren't as chewy as other fruit snacks--they seemed more like dried fruit than fruit juice concentrate mixed with lots of other crap.  Very yummy.  Ellie has been using the towelettes in the morning to "wash" her face.  I like the way they smell (lavender) and it's a great way to get her to wash up in the morning without the mess.  As for all the Seventh Generation products, the baby wash, lotion, laundry detergent--I LOVE them!  I don't really use a special baby detergent in the laundry because it's my thought that the regular detergent you use should be safe enough for baby skin.  If not, why are you putting harmful chemicals next to YOUR skin?  I'm currently using Honest Co detergent, but I have been planning to switch to Seventh Generatrion the next time I buy detergent.  I will DEFINITELY switch to the bath and body wash as well as their lotion.  I really liked both products!  They have a slight smell, but not much.  I also love the way the lotion absorbs and how the wash lathers.  VERY excited to have found these two products!  I also like that if you go to Seventh Generation's website you can find ALL the ingredients in their products.  I love that they're willing to disclose what they put into the products you put on your body.  I wish ALL companies did this!

So there's the party.  I guess it turned out to be kind of an online thing, but it's the best I could do.  I'm glad I signed up for it.  I feel like it's helped me keep my kids healthier, if no one else.  And I found some great new products!  So here are your facts for the day---party on!

To prevent ants and fleas from entering your house, mix 4 oz of a natural soap in 1 gallon of water and spray around your home's foundation.

A 2005 childhood study found that after just four days of eating organic food, there was virtually no trace of pesticides in kids' bodies!  Certified organic products are made without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides.  Research shows that you can immediately and dramatically reduce the pesticide content in your child's body by switching to organic foods.
