I was selected for yet another blogger trial through Kiwi Magazine's Green Mom's Meet. This time it is candy. My children were, of course, very disappointed that I needed them to try candy so I could blog about it. It took all of 10 minutes for it all to be gone.
I applied for this sample because I was intrigued by the product, Xlear SparX Candy because it contains Xylitol. I had heard of Xylitol and knew that it was sweet and had something to do with your teeth and it was positive, but I wasn't actually sure what it was.
So, for the record, Xylitol is "a plant-based, dentist-recommended sweetener that’s been proven to improve dental health and strengthen tooth enamel. Xylitol doesn’t interfere with the body’s blood sugar levels or insulin production, making it safe for kids and adults on a sugar-controlled diet." Cool, right? So we tried it. We got two tubes, on in Citrus and one in Fruit flavor. After much deliberation and conferring with the two neighbor boys at the bus stop, we decided that Fruit flavor was the taste-test winner. But as I said, both were gone in 10 minutes.
I would compare the taste to sweet tarts, which aren't my favorite candy, but I will admit, I had a hard time NOT eating this candy, but as I've said before, I have a sweet tooth. The info I got from the company says there is also a berry flavor and that the tubes retail for about $1.49. We also got two tubes of kid's toothpaste, which was also a big hit. It also contains Xylitol (check out their website for all the other products they make that contain Xylitol) and it fruity flavored. The kids like it a lot, but I kind of like the toothpastes that have a mint flavor, even for the kids. There's something off to me about just brushed teeth that smell like banana.
Here's the "disclaimer: I received this product for free from the sponsor of the
Moms MeetSM program, May Media Group LLC, who received it
directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms MeetSM blogger, I agreed
to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions
do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or
the manufacturer of the product."
So that's all I'm required to give you. I liked the product, I think it would be a good alternative as a shopping splurge when the kids are with me and begging for everything they see. I like that it actually helps to strengthen tooth enamel. I like that
it's sweet and to be honest, I think I'll probably search out that berry
flavor, just to give it a try too. Would I buy it all the time, no. Would I buy it just for me, probably not. But I'm glad we gave it a shot and I'm glad I finally got to know a little more about Xylitol. I'm a better consumer now that I know and it'll be interesting to keep an eye out when I'm shopping and out and about to look for more Xylitol products.
