I've said this slogan before. I work to make sure that my family eats a rainbow every day and when I first started this campaign in my household, I talked to my kids about it a lot too. Of course, because I'm always trying to implement new things, I've gotten away from this. I've noticed that my kids don't pay attention to what they eat anymore. We've been playing the ChooseMyPlate game, and that helps, but when we talked about eating a rainbow every day, I noticed that they were more involved in their own healthy eating--which is my ultimate goal. As I was exploring Healthy Child Healthy World, I clicked on the Trusted Partner's link and found comfort in knowing that a lot of their trusted partners are also MY trusted partners. As I scrolled down, I found something called Today I Ate a Rainbow and because it's one of my favorite, kid-friendly, healthy-eating tips, I clicked on it.
SUPER COOL! It's a Canadian-based company (eh!) and they sell a Today I Ate a Rainbow Kit.
It's a kit for kids to track their daily rainbow intake.
The Rainbow Kit contains the following:
• 1 Today I Ate A Rainbow!™ chart (not magnetic)
• 4 sets of tracking magnets
• 4 achievement magnets
• 2 fridge magnets
• 1 colour-coded shopping list
• The Rainbow Bunch Book
It's $20 (CA) dollars ( I have NO clue what that is in US dollars.) I think I might buy it. I also LOVE the website! It has lots of resources, for parents and kids as well as a few free downloads, like the "Today I Tried" Chart. It's GREAT for picky eaters, which I only kind of have. Ellie jumps at Kale and spinach, but won't touch grapes, bananas, strawberries...all the things NORMAL kids like to eat! (Unless I puree them in a smoothie and freeze it in a Popsicle mold...them she'll eat 2! Ha Ha Ellie, fooled you!) They also have a preschool program and they even do fundraising! I'm excited to explore this site some more, especially since it's summer and eating the rainbow means so many FRESH fruits and veggies!
Thanks SO much for writing about writing about our Today I Ate A Rainbow company!!! We hope your kids will have fun watching our cooking videos...have you made Ellie kale chips yet? I bet she'd love them since she is already a fan of kale! We also have lots of free resources on our site such as our Today I Tried Chart and lots of fruit and veggie colouring sheets!
ReplyDeleteIt's always great to connect with families like yours that are making healthy choices a priority!
Have fun eating rainbows :)
